About Us
Kate de Freitas has worked extensively in theatre and
television under the name of Christie Williams appearing in shows such
as Cameron Mackintosh's Les Miserables, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects
of Love, and Noel & Gertie playing the title role.
She now sings regularly with Spiros and with the whole band playing jazz, soul and blues and putting a twist on well known songs changing them into new creative interpretations which is what they are becoming known for.
Kate is thrilled too, to
be a part of Sax led band Momentum with Yosi Marshall for whom she has
written songs for their first album Acton to New York and a second album
to come out later in the year.
Kate is also involved in a
Rhythm & Blues band with Slim Estrada, Alex Comley and Roberto Bergamin that combines a traditional soulful blues and
gospel feel with songs from Aretha Franklin, Eva Cassidy and Nina Simone
with a more Rockerbilly uptempo sound singing songs from Imelda May,
Caro Emerald, Eddie Cochran and early Elvis.
Spiros Karagkounis grew up in Zakynthos island, Greece. At the age of 15
he picked up his first electric guitar, after that his love for music
became a way of life. At the time he was performing
Greek traditional music in various Greek islands during the summer
season, and simultaneously performed in rock bands as a lead guitarist.
In
2006 Spiros relocated to London in order to study and work as a
professional musician in the London scene. He registered at the
prestigious Guitar-X for further music studies and attended lessons with
some of the very finest guitarists such as: John
Wheatcroft, Iain Scott and Mike Outram. He graduated 3 years later
getting his Bachelor (honours) degree in Popular Music Performance.
His
style on improvisation has been influenced by his passion for music and
made him develop an individual and unique approach. He draws influences
from guitar greats such as Jimmy Hendrix , Albert Collins, Grant
Green, Frank Gambale, Wayne Krantz, and Scott Henderson.
Spiros
is currently playing with Kate de Freitas performing
